 Never rely upon what we think we know, always test your theories.  If it doesn't match your evidence or experiment, it's wrong.

In order to find out what happened you need to examine all of the evidence without any bias or pre-conceived notions.  A theory must be questioned and tested until it can be successfully defended. But even then, the job is only half done.  It needs to be explained in a way that’s easily understood. A reconstruction, no matter how well prepared and supported, is of no value if it fails to convey useful information to those who need it. 

Just because the technology is "cutting edge" doesn't mean that it has to be unaffordable.  We always try to find tools that get the answers in a way that allows us to help on cases of any severity.
